My baby broke her leg.

Apparently, (I say apparently because I was not with Olivia when this happened) Olivia was outside jumping on the tramp with the twins and Harrison and got bounced too high. Her legs flopped weird in the air and then she landed back on the tramp on her face. She immediately started screaming and so the kids brought her to me. I had never seen her like that. Usually Olivia has a very high pain tolerance and if she does get hurt she only cries for a minute. Or until she gets her binky. That being said, I knew she was very hurt.  We kept hoping that it was just a sprain or a twist and that it wasn't anything serious because Olivia does not have insurance here in Utah, only in Oregon. So we waited a few days. We wrapped it up nicely and she didn't cry much. Occasionally if it got moved the wrong way she would let out a scream. She would not stand or walk on it. So after a few days we
decided it would be best to take her in. We took her to the pediatrician that saw me when I was little! He immediately said that he thought she broke a bone and so he sent us down to have her leg x-rayed. Her favorite part of the x-ray was the lollipop they gave her after! Well turns out our doctor was right, she broke her tibia. (The main bone in your lower leg.) It was a clean break all the way through towards the top of her leg right below her knee. He said it would for sure need to be casted but he wanted us to see an orthopedic surgeon because of the place where she broke it. We had to wait a few days to see her because she was out of the office. So Dr. Gardner temporarily put a splint on her leg and wrapped it up nicely. He said he was so surprised at how brave she was. He said most babies that break a bone are bawling even through the night and a lot of times have muscle spasms. He was shocked to hear that none of this had happened.
That's my brave little girl.

If you look at the x ray the break happened about an inch below that little ball thing. If you look close there is a little dark line. (Sorry you can't see it really well, this is a picture of a picture.)

So finally the day came and we were able to meet with the orthopedic surgeon.
She said Olivia would need a full cast practically over her entire leg. And that it would need to be on for 4 weeks. For the first two weeks she is not supposed to put any weight on it and then for the last two weeks they gave us a little boot that we can put over it so that she can walk around. She said it was a clean break and that it should heal perfectly especially since Olivia is so young. We were able to get a water proof cast thankfully. Since we have our cabin and beach trips coming up. Olivia chose a purple cast and was so brave while they put it on. She even said thank you so much when they were through.

(Enjoying a nice pink lollipop).
I am so proud of my baby. It makes me sick to think of what she has been through and what she still has to go through wearing that cast and all. She has been a bit more irritable and I don't blame her. The hardest part is keeping her off that leg, because she is getting so comfortable with the cast. She is really good at crawling around and dragging her leg. Even though it is so sad, it's also quite cute. Lucky for her she has received so many gifts from friends and family that have helped make her sitting time more enjoyable. Like new movies, fun sticker books, markers and a whiteboard, playdough, and new my ya pos (my little ponies).
I feel so blessed with all the support we have had and am so grateful to my parents for being willing to pay for her care. I'm also so grateful to my mom for totally spoiling her and carrying her around everywhere.
I can't wait for these 4 weeks to be over so that my little girl can run around all day like she likes to.
