Today we got this email from this cute missionary. I couldn't resist sharing. It is that good.
So this past week has been really fun. July 4th was crazy, we had district meeting with the zone leaders that morning. A member from the Cromwell ward invited us all over for a big BBQ there were non members there so we spent a while there talking and even went to the park to play ball. Our Mission President gave all the missionaries permission to watch the fireworks but to head home afterwards. So basically our whole zone watched the fireworks together in New Britain right over a lake. It was pretty sick! After the fireworks we all went and ate at Denny's. By the time we got home it was like 12:30 am haha. Mom, about those little firework poppers you sent me. I take them on my bike with me and throw them at Elder Boren hehe. Thank you so much for the package! I haven't used the rope yet but there are a bunch of wild turkeys always running around at our stake center so we're going to go rope them sometime soon. Anyways, 4th of July was awesome everywhere we went we sung patriotic songs out of our hymn books. I have a video of us singing the national anthem in the car that I will sent home. I'm also working on getting some pictures to send from the fireworks and stuff. Also yesterday we went 6 flags again. So much fun! There is a roller coaster called goliath that me and another missionary from the zone got stuck on for almost an hour! The ride broke down while we were on it. It was still an awesome day though I will send pics soon. Despite all the fun these past couple weeks Elder Boren and I have been working so hard. It has been crazy hot and humid lately but we have still been biking 20-30 miles a day. We still aren't having much success with the people we are teaching but the elders quorum president gave us a big list of those he wants to reach out to so we have been working hard this week trying to visit everyone from the list. Last Saturday was brutal. It was unbelievably hot and humid and it seemed like everyone we went to lived up hills. Almost every house we went to nobody answered the door so we would bike another 5 miles or so to the next house knowing they probably aren't home. No matter how much I drank I was still dehydrated and didn't feel good. I was sweating more than I could drink. I wanted to give up, I was fed up and discouraged. Ha I even promised myself I would never ride a bike again nor live in a humid place after my mission haha. Then I thought of a poem that a close friend sent me at the beginning of my mission that I can sent you guys if you want. And I remembered my Savior who knows me more than anyone knew how I felt. He knows what its like to have no one listen to him. He wasn't worrying about the humidity but was sweating drops of blood. He didn't have to wear a bike helmet but a crown of thorns. He didnt have to wear a heavy back pack but he had to carry the cross. His hands didn't hurt from knocking on doors but from the nails that were driven through them. I also remembered Elder Hollands words "missionary work is not easy because Salvation is not a cheap experience! Salvation was never easy!" Why would we think it would be easy for us when it was NEVER easy form him. In order to fully understand the Atonement and help others use it in their lives we have to experience just a taste of what our Savior did for our salvation. I would hope we can all remember our savior when we are going through hard times because he is the way out. I was definitely humbled that day, I have been blessed with so much in my life and have had it so easy! And I took back what I said about never riding a bike again haha.;) I got the picture of Jacob and Derek at the MTC and it made me so happy! Its such a good feeling knowing all my friends are out doing the Lords work. Thanks everyone for the love and support. I love you all and hope you have a good week! - Love Elder Farr
That was just what I needed to hear this week. Boy do I have the best brothers in the world. I am so proud of them for serving missions and for really putting their whole hearts in to it. I know they are blessing many lives not the least of which is their family's back home.
